Highlighting Progress in Diabetes Self-Management App in Kosovo

On 9 December 2025, IHS project facilitated a meeting of the Working Group on Diabetes and Hypertension Self-Management Program, led by the Ministry of Health. At the meeting, participants reviewed the results of the implementation research at the initial stage of the use of the digital application MonitorIM for the self-management of patients with diabetes and hypertension, and discussed next steps in remote patient support.

Working Group Chair Niman Bardhi, Ministry of Health, noted that recent achievements reflect the collective effort of institutions, health professionals and partners involved throughout all stages of development, praising the collaboration behind the app and its implementation. “The support of IHS with SDC funding has been vital to the digital tool’s development and sustainability and expansion remain a shared priority,” he said, highlighting the importance of joint action across the health system.

Dr. Lia Tavadze, Team Leader of the IHS project, thanked all partners for their excellent collaboration throughout the process and underlined that health professionals, managers, innovators and civil society played a key role in shaping the MonitorIM approach, adding that cooperation with the University of Prishtina has been essential to understanding patients and health personnel behavioral patterns of using the tool.

Representing the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Ms. Merita Stavileci stressed that the tool contributes directly to improving the quality, accessibility and integration of NCD-related services in Kosovo. She emphasized that patient empowerment is a central goal, and that digital solutions offer an effective way to strengthen continuity of care through remote monitoring.

Implementation research findings were presented by Linda Hoxha from the Institute of Psychology at the University of Prishtina, followed by an open discussion on the lessons learned and priorities to strengthen the tool and move forward. Closing remarks focused on next steps within 2025–2026 Action Plan to expand digital self-management services and support healthcare institutions in their rollout of MonitorIM.
