Kosovo – Slovenia Exchange on Diabetes Patients Organizations
Recently, the Integrated Health Services project organized a hands-on workshop titled “Empowerment of Patients with Diabetes – Lessons from Slovenia and Next Steps for Kosovo” facilitated by Dr. Samo Fakin from Slovenia.
The workshop provided a space for open and collaborative discussion between diabetes patients, civil society organizations, and doctors and nurses from both the secondary and primary levels. Discussions focused on strategies to strengthen diabetes patient associations and increase their impact in Kosovo. Interactive group sessions generated a range of innovative proposals, from nutritional programs to advanced medical interventions.
“A very practical workshop that provided guidance for patients and introduced new practices for health workers and non-governmental organization how to approach working with a patient with diabetes,” said Idriz Ethemi from the Association of Diabetes Patients in Peja.
The event concluded with a list of takeaways for further steps.
