Action Plan on Health Education at Hospital Level on Good Track

Kosovo’s healthcare sector is taking significant strides in strengthening the health education and health promotion on non-communicable diseases at hospital level for 2025 – 2026. The latest developments to improve patient engagement, service quality, and care pathways were discussed during the Working Group meeting for the 2025-2026 Action Plan on Health Education and health promotion in Hospitals, held in Prishtina.

The plan is being aligned with new health sectoral strategy 2025-2030 and HPH (Health Promoting Hospitals) international standards recognized. – The Health Promoting Hospitals approach enables hospitals to integrate health education programs, improve doctor-nurse collaboration, and expand service packages to better address patient needs.

The Ministry of Health (MoH), the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (NIPH), and the Hospital and University Clinical Service of Kosovo (SHSKUK) are jointly driving these efforts forward, with IHS support.

The IHS implementation partners, the General Hospitals in Gjakova and Peja have already demonstrated progress following their study visit to Hungary last year, to witness the best European standard of implementing HPH approach. Notably, Kosovo’s primary healthcare sector is now becoming part of the global HPH network, further expanding the country’s commitment to this model.

As the working group embarks on the new action plan, the focus will remain on sustained implementation with continued donor support. These collaborative efforts of national institutions, healthcare professionals, and international partners will be further instrumental in shaping the future of Kosovo’s healthcare system better addressing NCDs.
