Five General Hospitals Complete Self-Assessment
In the last two weeks of December 2025, the General Hospitals of Mitrovica, Ferizaj, Gjilan, Vushtrri, and Prizren completed the structured self-assessment based on the internationally recognised Health Promoting Hospitals (HPH) 2020 standards. This marks a new step toward strengthening patient-centred and health-promoting care in Kosovo.
The assessment was conducted in cooperation with the Kosovo University Clinical and Hospital Service, with the support of the Integrated Health Services (IHS) Project. The IHS initiated the self-assessment process of general hospitals in accordance with the 2020 Standards for Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services. This initiative is based on the experience gained from the implementation of this process in the General Hospitals of Peja and Gjakova, which have been members of the International Network of Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services (HPH) since March 2024.
Multidisciplinary hospital teams reviewed their policies, structures and everyday practices using the HPH 2020 self-assessment tools, identifying strengths, gaps and priority areas for improvement in health promotion and secondary prevention, particularly for patients with non-communicable diseases. The process was facilitated by three local external facilitators and built on earlier experience gained in the General Hospitals in Peja and Gjakova.
The results will feed into five hospital-specific reports and a consolidated cross-hospital summary, providing a solid evidence base for future planning, quality improvement and national policy dialogue on health-promoting hospitals in Kosovo.
