New Reception Area At Gjakova Hospital Blends Healthcare with Health Education

On 18 Februry 2026, the General Hospital of Gjakova held an event to demonstrate the functions of a newly opened reception area designed to bring healthcare services and health education together in one practical, patient-centred space.

Hospital representatives presented the reception area’s multiple functions in action. Patients living with non-communicable diseases had their blood pressure and glucose levels measured, while families and community activists joined healthcare staff in open conversations about daily habits, nutrition, medication use, and the emotional realities of managing chronic conditions.

Mr. Hilmi Shala, Executive Director of the General Hospital of Gjakova, said: “This reception area bridges clinical care with everyday life, empowering patients to become active partners in managing their health.”

The new space transforms a traditional waiting area into a shared learning environment where patients and families become active partners in care.

“Switzerland is proud to partner with Kosovo institutions to strengthen the health system, with a particular focus on addressing non-communicable diseases, which affect thousands of families across the country and require long-term, coordinated, and compassionate care. This is why patient-centred care is so essential. The space we witness here is a very practical expression of this approach,” said Merita Stavileci Mustafa, from the Swiss Embassy in Kosovo.

Through this investment, Switzerland continues to support Kosovo in developing practical solutions that improve health services, empower patients, and contribute to healthier communities.
