Training of Trainers Strengthens Clinical Audit Capacity in Kosovo

Last week, a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on Clinical Audit Practices successfully concluded. The in-person training brought together senior clinicians, nurses, managers, and quality officers to build a new cohort of audit leaders capable of planning, conducting, and cascading clinical audits within institutions across the system. The program helps strengthen practical skills for quality improvement in Kosovo’s hospitals settings.

The training focused on the full clinical audit cycle, from understanding core principles and standards to selecting audit topics, defining objectives, collecting and analysing data, and developing actionable recommendations. Participants worked through realistic topics for case studies applying hands-on exercises, producing complete planning of audit cycles, with data collection tools, including rollout timelines ready for implementation.

The first day laid the foundations of understanding principles of clinical audit, while the second and third days deepened skills in data analysis, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and training others. The programme concluded with participants presenting hospital-specific audit plans designed to directly support quality and safety improvements in healthcare delivery.

By strengthening internal audit capacity, the ToT contributes to implementing more structured, evidence-based quality improvement processes and supports the longer-term goal of harmonising clinical audit practices at national level.
