Experts Convene to Revise Duties for Health Institution Quality Coordination Functions
On 1 August 2024, the expert working group tasked with revising and updating the Terms of Reference (TORs) for the position of quality coordinator and the quality committee for healthcare institutions convened for a critical meeting. Chaired by Niman Bardhi from the Ministry of Health of Kosovo, the session focused on elaborating further the initial draft and associated documentation, including institutional statutes.
Key items on the agenda included a thorough analysis of the TORs, the reporting model, and the roles and responsibilities of the quality coordinator and committees. “The role of quality coordinators is paramount in ensuring the effectiveness of our healthcare system and improving the services and overall health of our population,” Bardhi emphasized during the meeting.
The revision and updating of these TORs are part of a broader initiative to enhance the quality of healthcare services in Kosovo. “Quality coordinators play a key role in monitoring and promoting best practices within each healthcare institution, ensuring compliance with health regulations, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement,” said Dr. Ilir Mecini, Deputy Team Leader at the Integrated Health Services (IHS) project, which is supporting the process.
The working group especially focused on how to refine the TORs to better align with current healthcare needs and standards. The outcomes of this meeting are expected to significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts to elevate the standards of health care and patient safety across the country.
