Kosovo Delegation Highlights Integrated Care Achievements at Lisbon Conference

A multidisciplinary delegation of healthcare professionals from Kosovo participated in the International Conference on Integrated Care (ICIC25), held from May 14–16, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal. The team joined global health leaders and experts to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and present Kosovo’s advancements in integrated care.

“There was ample space for debate and discussion to better understand the challenges and opportunities related to integrated care. It was also very important that the conference had a mixed audience, including decision-makers, managers, doctors, and analysts. We had the opportunity to share various ideas and practices, which are very important for implementation in the place where I work,” said Dr. Rexhë Panxhaj, one of the delegation members.

Representing institutions from across Kosovo, as well as the Integrated Healthcare Services (IHS) and Accessible Quality Healthcare (AQH) projects, the delegation contributed to the international dialogue on coordinated, people-centered healthcare delivery.

Two central features of the delegation’s participation were the presentation by AQH on integrated care in Kosovo, which focused on pilot experiences from the municipalities of Fushë Kosova and Lipjan, and an IHS Project presentation to share challenges and lessons learned so far on the journey of towards better coordination and integration of care between primary and secondary care levels to improve management and care continuity.

The insights gained and relationships formed will serve as a valuable foundation for continuing with non-communicable disease management across the country.
