Refining Patient Education SOPs for Diabetes and Hypertension

Last week, the Integrated Health Services (IHS) project conducted workshops at Peja and Gjakova General Hospitals to test and finalize the newly developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at improving patient education on diabetes and hypertension. The sessions provided healthcare professionals with an opportunity to carefully review the document and sought their feedback on the new protocols before formal implementation.

The workshops began with presentations on effective patient education strategies, emphasizing the critical role nurses play in chronic disease management. Topics included self-care practices, self-monitoring techniques, and methods to enhance patient engagement and adherence. Following the presentations, participants engaged in a Q&A session focused on practical ways to strengthen patient involvement.

“Our goal is to empower healthcare professionals with tools that improve patient outcomes,” said Fekrije Hasani, Senior Health Expert at IHS project. “By involving healthcare staff in developing these SOPs, we can ensure they are both practical and impactful.”

The events concluded with a review of the feedback gathered from participants, which will be used to refine the SOPs before their regional rollout.
