Special Edition of “Shëndeti” Magazine Focuses on Non-Communicable Diseases

The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (NIPHK) has published a special edition of “Shëndeti” magazine dedicated to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This edition was prepared in cooperation with the Integrated Health Services (IHS) project.

“This edition is dedicated to NCDs as both a reflection of and testimony to the efforts of various national and international institutions to prevent and control them, and to strengthen institutional and individual surveillance,” writes Dr. Ardita Baraku, Executive Director of NIPH. “As Editor-in-Chief, I believe that this edition is further evidence of NIPHK’s commitment

to its vision of ‘A healthy population, in a healthy environment, in a healthy state.’”

The publication draws on two collaborative initiatives. The first is the engagement between journalists and the Association of Kosovo Journalists on one side, and public health experts to strengthen public information. Bringing together public health and clinical expertise with journalistic reporting, the edition explores prevention, health communication, patient education and continuity of care. Articles highligh

t the role of nurses, the use of data in decision-making and opportunities to improve care for people living with chronic conditions.

The second initiative is the Leadership Course on Non-communicable Diseases held during the 2026 Prishtina International Summer University. A dedicated section presents the experience and selected presentations from the course developed jointly by the University of Prishtina, IHS and NIPHK. It explores how strengthening leadership capacities can help translate evidence and policies into better prevention and care.
