Clinical Audit to Improve Hospital Care for Type 2 Diabetes

A two-day planning workshop on 20–21 October 2026 brought together the Ministry-appointed working group to define the standards, methodology and implementation arrangements of the clinical audit to assess how consistently hospitals apply the clinical protocol for treating adults with type 2 diabetes.

“This audit is important for assessing how well the clinical protocol for treating adults with type 2 diabetes using oral antidiabetic medicines is implemented in hospital practice, with the aim of improving the quality and safety of treatment,” said Dr. Hajrullah Fejza of the Ministry of Health, who chairs the working group.

“The main beneficiaries are patients, through safer and more effective treatment; healthcare professionals, through opportunities to improve their practice; and the Ministry of Health, through concrete evidence for decision-making and continuous improvement in the quality of health services,” he added.

The workshop agenda covered the selection of measurable criteria, patient cases and data sources, alongside the responsibilities of participating institutions. It also included practical testing of data collection tools, arrangements for confidentiality and quality checks, and preparation of hospital teams.

The working group includes Ministry of Health representatives, hospital quality assurance officers, clinical professionals and a patient rights representative.
